Tween Topics Group
In this 6 session group we teach kids ages 10-13 skills to help them to:
- Manage social media
- Develop healthy relationships
- Build self esteem
- Deal with bullying
- Regulate emotions
- Communicate more effectively
With social media being a main form of communication, “tweens” now have to face cyber bullying, comparing their lives to others, and also have to deal with the risk of stumbling into an unsafe situation online. This group will provide a space for them to open up about their struggles and will provide them the skills to build self-esteem, communicate in a healthy way, as well as learning about healthy boundaries and traits that make for healthy relationships.
This group will also provide them with the skills to navigate social media in a safe way. Many “tweens” may have trouble identifying and communicating their emotions. Participants will learn the skills to properly communicate how they are feeling as well as healthy coping skills. This will be achieved by using a combination of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy skills as well as different group activities to help teach the skills needed.
