Nilton Castro is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) at Mental Health Counseling for Emotional Well- Being PLLC. Nilton’s career in counseling began while serving in the United States Marine Corps, and has led him to the near completion of a PhD in Mental Health Counseling, Counselor Education & Supervision.

Nilton’s clinical expertise stems from working in hospital settings as well as in private practice. He has advanced training in both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy which allows him to use tenets of both to best address the needs of the client.

Nilton specializes in working with various diagnoses including, but not limited to: Depression, Anxiety, Adjustment Disorders, Post Traumatic Stress, and Substance Use Issues. He also has years of experience working with persistent psychiatric issues such as schizophrenia and bi-polar disorders.

Some of Nilton’s passions within the counseling field include sports psychology, the issues surrounding athletic injury and rehabilitation, and working with first responders. His interests have allowed him to present his research at conferences around the United States including: New York, Chicago, and Washington DC. Nilton is one of the special interest group chair members of the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS). In addition to clinical practice, Nilton is also a Professor of Counselor Education in Westchester County, NY.
